We are very happy to welcome aboard Yesari Tolga Eden, the new TACL editorial assistance (EA). Tolga is joining Cindy Robinson, who shaped this invaluable position and is still contributing to TACL as an EA.
Welcome, Tolga, and best of luck !
To be eligible for presentation (oral or poster) at EMNLP 2024, TACL papers must satisfy both of the following conditions:

Authors Registration Fee Details: Author Register Paper (for presentation) Industrial/Non-Academic, Academic or Student
At least one author of each accepted paper to an ACL conference (ACL, NAACL, EACL, AACL, or EMNLP) must register their paper to present at the conference. Exceptions to the statement above: Accepted Finding that are not being presented. All findings being presented must register their paper. Workshop shared tasked papers do not need to register their paper to present.
Note all Paper registration fees are based on actual hard cost to the conference
In person registration fee reflects the attendees’ hard costs of food & beverage (breaks, welcome reception and social dinner) along with meeting space, av or poster presentation equipment). Virtual attendees’ registration fees reflect the virtual costs (internet, AV, content management, platforms).
To streamline the paper revision process, TACL is implementing a new procedure focusing on major reviewer comments. Action editors will filter and prioritize these comments, guiding authors to make essential revisions. For original submissions, papers unlikely to meet TACL standards after implementing the mandatory revisions within three months, are rejected outright. For resubmissions, properly addressing mandatory revisions leads to acceptance (a) or minor revisions (b), while failure to do so results in rejection (d).
TACL has always emphasized the balance of high quality review and a fast cycle reviewing process. The aim of this new procedure is to optimize the journal policy on one of the most challenging reviewing phases, the phase of correcting a paper after getting a revise and resubmit (c) recommendation. Roi Reichart and Asli Celikyilmaz have been selected to be co-Editors-in-Chief (co-EiCs) of TACL, which will bring the number of co-EiCs to three (along with Ani Nenkova) when Brian Roark finishes his term at the end of 2022. Congratulations to Roi and Asli!
The temporary expansion to three co-EiCs will last until the end of Ani Nenkova's term in 2024, when TACL will revert to its standard 2 co-EiCs. The expansion is in support of initiatives that require effort beyond the regular operation of the journal.
Ani Nenkova has been selected to be a co-Editor-in-Chief (co-EiC) of TACL, alongside continuing co-EiCs Mark Johnson and Brian Roark. Congratulations to Ani!
Lillian Lee has been at the helm of TACL since nearly its inception and will continue as co-EiC until the end of the calendar year, but we can still express an early "thanks very much" to her for all she has done for TACL!
The ACL has adoped new policies for *ACL conferences and TACL regarding submission and review; these are listed here.
These policies go into effect for the Jan 1st, 2018 TACL submission round. This implies that submissions for the Jan 1st round must obey its corresponding anonymity window, which begins December 1st, 2017.
The "Resubmission Policy for ACL, EACL, NAACL, EMNLP Conference Submissions" has been revised to clarify the status of papers withdrawn from conferences.
The short version is: "TACL considers papers that were reviewed by a conference and not accepted, such as papers that were withdrawn during an author response period before an official decision was received, to have been rejected from the conference."
See the Author Guidelines for the full version.
There has been a slight change to how revisions of (b) papers should be resubmitted: by email instead of system upload. The protocol for revisions of (c) papers remains the same - via the system.
Updated instructions are at the "Revision and Resubmission Policy for TACL Submissions" section of the instructions.
With the expiration of Michael Collins' term as co-editor-in-chief of TACL, Mark Johnson and Kristina Toutanova have been selected to be co-editors-in-chief together with continuing co-editor-in-chief Lillian Lee.
Thanks very much to Michael Collins for all he did for TACL!
